Jurado “DeTorris” Marshall is one of hottest new choir directors emerging from the prominent Chicago gospel scene. Born in Alabama, DeTorris was singing in his first church choir at the age of 6. By 12, he was directing local youth choirs, and at the age of 14 DeTorris started the first chapter of the North Alabama Youth Choir. DeTorris spent the next chapter of his life honing his skills as a director by staying active in his local choir and studying the work of his favorite artists such as: Ricky Dilliard, John P. Kee, Donald Lawrence, The Hawkins, The Clark Sisters and Luther Vandross.

A man of strong faith, with a steadfast belief that through God all things are possible, In 2010, Detorris decided to move to Chicago to further his studies in choir directing under the tutelage of Grammy winning producer/artist, Donald Lawrence. Through this experience, DeTorris better learned the art of leading a choir and was able to work with some of Chicago’s top gospel talents including: Donald Lawrence and his prestigious group of singers “The Company”, Valencia Lacy, Percy Bady and many others.

In early 2011, DeTorris decided it was time to form his own choir. After a rigorous try out process, DeTorris and his team were able to select 33 of Chicago’s best young singers to form DT & The Movement. The Movement is composed of an eclectic group of college age singers who are dedicated to creating the most unique choir in Chicago. The Movement has roots in traditional gospel music, but has also tapped into more modern inspirations like the popular TV program Glee. In a few short months DT & The Movement have already recorded a two song demo and an EPK. The future looks exceptionally bright for DT & The Movement. They plan to recored a full length album, tour internationally and even tap into the TV market.

When time permits, the multi-talented DeTorris Marshall also owns a successful bakery business; Cakes by DeTorris. What started as a small start-up that allowed DeTorris to share one his God given talents and favorite hobbies has turned into a burgeoning local business.
